My First Post!!!

Salutations!

First off, I'd like to explain to everyone who I am and why I started this blog. I have been a fan of ice hockey ever since my Dad took me to a Washington Capitals game at the old Caps Center. I fell in love with the swiftness and physicality of the game, and unlike other sports, ice hockey is a game where one must first learn how to skate, bringing a totally different element to the sport which I consider to be the greatest in the world. The skills that first must be realized before even attempting to learn the rules of the game is what drew my attention. It was at my first Caps game that I knew this was the sport that I wanted to play and follow for the rest of my days.

Returning back to why I started this blog... I have always wanted to put down some of my thoughts and musings concerning the team I have followed for so long, and decided that this was my chance, perhaps the best time if any to fulfill a dream of mine. To show my dedication to a team that has gone through so much in the past thirty years, and is seemingly now on the verge of putting the puzzle into place. Having seen the Caps ebb and flow for many years, having not yet reached their full potential has given me something to do with my time, and perhaps further my writing skills. I view this blog as a chance to offer insights on current happenings within the Washington Capitals organization, while simultaneously sharing some of my experiences as a life-long Caps fan.

You may be wondering what prompted me to choose such a title for my blog, but a true Caps fan would hopefully gain a sense of nostalgia from the no longer uttered phrase. On nights when scoring and hopes were high we all relished in the fact that a single word chanted over and over could bring us closer together. At old Caps games before they moved to the MCI Center (now known as the Verizon Center or the "phonebooth") when the Caps scored six goals everyone in attendance received a coupon for a free pizza. At five goals the chant would start and feverishly grow louder as time ticked off the clock without a sixth celebration for the home team. "PIZZA! PIZZA!" the fans would scream, rooting the players on for that sixth goal that would result in everyone's dinner the next day. Sometimes they would score, and sometimes they wouldn't, but the chant held a deeper meaning for Caps fans. It brought us closer to the team, and to the action on the ice, and it gave us the opportunity to will our team on to that sixth goal, and another Caps victory. Although, admittedly corny, these moments at Caps games I take with me, and I will use them as a building block for my posts in the future.

I am about to embark on the long lonely journey of a Washington Capitals blogger and I hope that you will stay with me as I offer my thoughts.

Stay tuned for more.....
